End of Summer Catch at Home Depot

Image
The title of this post might seem almost weird in a sense, “Last minute Catch at Home Depot;” almost seems too good to be true. Every time I go to Home Depot, I have to admit I love to look through the lights and other home goods products that they have in store. This doesn’t mean I always buy something like that, because at my place of residence I don’t do any kind of homeowner work; considering I rent. Considering this popular product that I got for a seriously low price is at such high quality, it doesn’t actually matter if you BBQ on the regular. As you can see in the picture of this “spatula,” often otherwise referred to as “The Flipper” in high quality restaurant jobs, it’s a good looking deal! I would say that the length, height and width of the top of the spatula where you flip on the grill is about 4x4x4. The overall height of the spatula from handle to top is about 20 inches. To be fair, I do currently have a GED study guide with ...

Tomatoes that I planted in July

Image
It may be a simple fact that germinating indoors is the best way to start summer crops but then again what about if you were left with tomato starts in peat pods in the middle of July? Would you plant them? In this case, I did.  This is only my second year of gardening, and as I always say, I learned to expect less and experience more. In regards to growing tomatoes, I can say this is the first time that I’ve ever done so and I think I picked the right kind. I can say I never would of imagined myself growing these kind of tomatoes but I managed to make it happen. I definitely know that beginner gardeners like myself can understand that bit. Tomande hybrid Tomatoes are what I have been talking about on my Instagram and Threads since June. You can find the early on pictures on my Instagram highlights from when I was germinating the tomatoes. It has really been such a leap for me to put my tomato plants right into the ground considering so m...

The Moment of Truth: Garden Leader Monster Melon

Image
As the old popular saying goes, “pictures don’t do it justice;” is exactly the best way to describe this home grown watermelon. Even though I only got one good one, the five or six melons of all sizes that were growing on the giant vines were something to study along the way. I feel lucky, so to speak in regards to the fact I was able to harvest one giant watermelon. In theory, this watermelon isn’t as giant as some other growers may have or likely isn’t as great as some other varieties may offer in terms of growing size but there is still something to be enthusiastic about. I started these watermelons late for my gardening zone which recommends to usually plant your root balls in the ground by the middle of June. This goes for tomatoes and melons and especially larger size melons and plants like tomatoes that require a lot of water. Take a look at the pictures below, which have captions to describe more about the melon but not the taste part quite yet. One of the most enjoyable t...

5 Star in a Toaster Oven: Chicken Sandwich

Image
If you're like me, all summer long you've been eating at fast food more often because cooking with the temperatures in the 90's with the humidity is not a good vibe! It's the AC, the stove, the food, etc. The comfort adjustments never end, so I am going to do grilled chicken at the drive thru. I think fast food is somewhat healthier nowadays; that's the best way to put it. I know making food in the toaster oven and calling it 5 star online is somewhat of a long shot but nonetheless so is calling fast food unhealthy. Personally, I think dieting is up to every individual to figure out. When I go to fast food places I make sure to customize my food so it's comfortable and basic; and also avoid the fries and soda. In terms of this delectable chicken sandwich above, that is what I am here to brag about! The chicken I used for the sandwiches was from the 4 chicken breasts I made a few days ago. They have stored nice in the fridge and so far I have used all of it for...

The news about Beef, Corn, Peppers, Fettuccine Alfredo In and more

Image
In my last post made before the weekend, I was talking about all of the corn, green bell peppers and beef that I made up to try on pasta dishes with Tomato meat sauce and also regular Cream Alfredo sauce. I can tell you that the alfredo dish is in a very close competition with the tomato sauce dish; being that the tomato pasta dish had such a robust and subtle flavor from the peppers and meat. Also, there was really a subtle balance of flavors across the board. In terms of this dish today, using the Alfredo sauce, there is a lot to look at and a lot to like. When I was at the grocery store tonight I picked up some concentrated beef bone broth. This brings me right into prepping pasta sauces other than tomato sauce. How to prep alfredo sauce is something I don't really know much about but there is something really big I noticed worth taking note of. Having the sauce as more of a solid cream, and cooking into the dish from cold really lets you bring in a strong arm to the dish beca...

Top notch breakfast, bake while you wait

Image
It's no surprise at how easy it is to make something right in your toaster oven that's so delicious; as you get other chores done! I like to call this egg dish 'Frittata 101.' When I think of Frittata I think of fluffy eggs in a ceramic or cast iron skillet. I've worked at a lot of places that serve these kind of things for breakfast, in a ceramic skillet even from the microwave but nothing beats a long bake. Since I picked up a cool looking small ceramic skillet tonight, I decided to go big and make something very hot and very tasty. The picture on the bottom is after a 20 minute bake on 350 and the picture on the top is before baking. The dish stayed hot all throughout eating and that's what I loved most. The tomato juice in with the eggs and olive oil made a splendid consistency. This dish is so delicious and so easy, it's almost unbelievable! I chose no salt for this "Breakfast for Dinner" extravaganza; and it's because I had 7 chocolate ...

Trying hard to get color on my late Tomatoes

Image
I am on a quest to try and get my Tomande Hybrid #tomatoes to turn red by the end of September. This is where they are at as of today! In these few pictures you can see the leaves turning brown and yellow as usual, so I am doing a third recommended prune and also taking off all the yellow flower and fruit buds. I’m not sure why the leaves keep turning this color but if it’s avoidable next year I’m going to try and make that time investment. Pruning inside the cages is very time consuming in itself! My area is supposed to get rain on Thursday with a high of 88 degrees so I am doing all of this preparation now which also includes putting some 5-5-5 fertilizer down around the roots, tying bottom fruit stems to cage with rope or with plant stem. I really think this is the only option to give them a chance to harvest; and I really hope I can get some to vine ripen just a little and even leave to ripen in my room. I’ve never tried a hybrid tomato, and by the viscosity of these 11...
